D'cent bio and card wallet.

DECENT offers a hardware wallet with bio-identification and a wallet in credit card form.
Both wallets can be used with the same app.
This app also includes a software wallet.

A. Biometric wallet

Installing the wallet.

First, you have to install an account on the wallet and write down the initial sentence of 24 words.
Then you have to confirm all those 24 words, this is quite a time-consuming procedure.
The operation on the wallet is not difficult, but a bit more complicated than with a touchscreen wallet.

Installing the app

Installing the app with the Bio wallet is slightly less straightforward than installing it with the Dcent card. So if you have both wallets, I recommend installing the app with the card.

The Bluetooth connection of the wallet is not immediately recognised in the app, you have to go to your Bluetooth settings on your phone to add the wallet.
I had to make a few attempts to make this work, also the wallet was not recognised directly in my settings.
Once it was successful, it required a firmware update.
To do this via my phone, I was asked for a cable, which was not included with the wallet.

It only came with a cable for updating via computer.
Fortunately, I had a cable I could use.
The firmware update took about 15 minutes and was not entirely automatic, it rebooted a few times and I had to manually follow some instructions each time.

Because of all these sometimes less than straightforward procedures, I find this bio wallet less suitable for beginners or people who are not tech-savvy.

Supports about 1,200 coins.

Good battery.

Good and fast support.

Disadvantages:

Battery not replaceable.

Needs an additional software wallet to hold more coins than the 1,200 coins supported by the wallet app.

Only 1 year warranty.

No open source software.

Not for beginners if your coins are not supported by the wallet itself.

 

B. Card wallet

This wallet comes with 2 cards, the main card and a spare card.

Installing the wallet and app is very simple, hold the card against your phone and the app will open and install automatically.

The card does not support many coins, the bio wallet supports more coins.
I also found it surprising that the card does not support bitcoin!

No firmware updates required.

Good and fast support.

Disadvantages:

Not open source.

Limited currency support.

Wallet does not support bitcoin.

Needs an additional software wallet to store more coins.

Not for beginners if your coins are not supported by the card wallet.
