Hardware wallets
The safest way to store crypto is in a hardware wallet.
In fact, everyone should store their crypto in a hardware wallet.
Hardware wallets store your crypto offline and are therefore much safer than online wallets or storing your crypto on an exchange.
Online wallets and crypto exchanges can be hacked, and then you can lose all your cryptos.
Exchanges can also go bankrupt or without any reason, sometimes block your cryptos.
So wise advice: invest in a good hardware wallet; most hardware wallets are very affordable.
Anonymous:
Another important advantage of cold wallets is that they are completely anonymous.
So no one can find out if you have cryptocoins, including governments!
Hardwallets come in all sizes and shapes, from devices in the form of a large USB stick, devices with a touch screen, in credit card form and even in the form of a ring.
A good hardware wallet should meet the following criteria:
Security: The wallet must of course be secure.
Ease of use: Suitable for both beginners and advanced users.
Support for multiple cryptocurrencies:The wallet must support all your coins.
Own management app: The wallet must have its own management app.
No additional software should be required:
Some hardware wallets require an external software wallet such as MetaMask to support more coins.
For many users this can be too complicated.
If you already can work with a software wallet this is less of a problem. However you must check if the hardware wallet is supporting yout software wallet.
Personally I prefer a hardware wallet which does not need an external software wallet and has his own wallet which supports the most coins.
Secure connection: The wallet must have a secure connection to your phone or computer.
Support for multiple networks:
The wallet must support multiple networks, such as Polygon, Solana, etc.
Backup of recovery phrase (seed phrase): The wallet must provide a backup of the recovery phrase (seed phrase).
Price-quality ratio: The price should be in proportion to the quality.
Tip: Expensive wallets are definitely NOT better.
Good and fast helpdesk: The wallet should have a good and fast helpdesk.
Extra options:
Direct purchase of crypto: Possibility to purchase crypto directly from in the wallet.
Staking options: Possibility to stake from the wallet.
Battery-free: Preferably the wallet should be able to work without a battery. A wallet woth battery should have a high quality battery and preferably replaceable.
Large community: A large community on social media where you can ask questions.
Good portability: Especially important if you travel a lot.
Customer care:
A good helpdesk should be easily accessible and able to respond within 24 hours.
